Changes to Saskatchewan Assured Income for Disability Program (SAID)

The Government of Saskatchewan recently announced changes to the Saskatchewan Assured Income for Disability (SAID) Program, effective September 1st, 2026. These changes are being made through the restructuring of a component of the benefit, the Living Income Benefit.

Some of the changes include:

1. Standalone benefits (laundry, telephone, and disability income) are now consolidated into the Living Income Benefit
2. Monthly meal allowance and school expenses will be discontinued but the Living Income Benefit has increased.
3. Income amounts are now determined both by family size and regional tiers, to provide more to those in rural communities (however, they are consolidating some of the family size tiers, so that means families with 5+ children will get the same amount as those with 3-4 children).
4. Some changes to connected programs
   1. Increase of the Northern Living Supplement
   2. Excess Living Income Benefit capped at $150/household
   3. Disability Income Benefit for spouses requirements will be updated
   4. SAID clients are able to cover actual utility costs
