Who We Are

Since 1977, Disability Alliance BC (DABC) has been a provincial, cross-disability voice in British Columbia. We are a non-profit, charitable organization that champion issues impacting the lives of people with disabilities. Our mission is to promote a more inclusive and equitable society for people with all disabilities through direct services, community partnerships, systemic advocacy, research, and publications. through our direct services, community partnerships, advocacy, research and publications. 

DABC has established a national non-profit organization, Disability Alliance Canada (DAC), to extend our mission to people with disabilities across Canada. DAC offers direct service supports to help individuals across Canada access federal disability benefits and tax filing services. 

Job Description

DAC is seeking a Program Coordinator to join the team. This role contributes to maintaining the quality and sustainability of program services. The Program Coordinator will assist in supporting the day-to-day operations by managing client intake and inquiries, maintaining program policies and procedures, developing program materials, participating in strategic planning for the organization, developing and coordinating outreach strategies and activities, creating and maintaining strategic partnerships, and other tasks as reasonably required.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and respond to client inquiries over the phone, email, and in-person
  • Screen clients for eligibility of various services and conduct initial client intake 
  • Ensure regular update of any program materials, including program manuals, educational resources, community resources and contacts list 
  • Maintain and organize files, as well as other program materials relevant to the organization
  • Provide accurate statistical information on participant activities for evaluations and reporting purposes
  • Provide information and support to people with disabilities on the issues related to provincial, territorial, and federal disability benefits and tax related concerns
  • Keep up to date on any changes to policy and procedures relevant to DAC’s services
  • Assist in the development of community awareness and outreach strategies through a variety of means including the development of educational materials and training modules, delivery of workshops, and establishment of new community partnerships
  • Liaise with community partners to schedule and arrange specific outreach activities
  • In consultation with the Communications team, assist in the development of marketing and communications strategies
  • Lead tasks and activities related to key projects and community partnerships
  • Support advocates with administrative tasks as reasonably required

A successful applicant must:

  • Possess strong knowledge of provincial, territorial, and federal laws, policies, and programs as it relates to people with disabilities
  • Be able to work effectively with people with disabilities
  • Have a minimum 2 years combined post-secondary education and/or applicable work experience
  • Be self-motivated and adaptable and able to work effectively with a team
  • Be detail-oriented and have excellent organizational skills
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Understand the importance of preserving the confidentiality of sensitive client information
  • Be computer literate and proficient with word-processing software, including the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Be comfortable working remotely
  • Be available for occasional travel to communities across Canada

The following are not required but would be assets to the position:

  • Working knowledge of income tax programs for people with disabilities including the Disability Tax Credit, Canada Pension Plan -Disability, Canada Disability Benefit, and other disability benefits and programs
  • Volunteer or coordination experience with the Canadian Revenue Agency’s CVITP Program
  • Have experience using income tax preparation software (e.g., UFile) to prepare income tax returns

Salary: $60,000

This position offers the following benefits after a three-month probationary period:

  • 15 days of paid vacation annually

Working hours and location

This position is full-time for 5 days per week at 8 hours a day (including 1 hour as a paid lunch break). We invite candidates living anywhere in Canada. For candidates living in Vancouver Lower Mainland, this will be a hybrid work opportunity; for candidates living outside of the Lower Mainland, this will be a remote position.  

DAC is located in Vancouver BC, on the traditional, ancestral and stolen lands of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples.
